In-form Rising Pune Supergiant face top guns Kolkata Knight Riders,Opportunity for RPS to draw level with KKR
Kolkata Knight Riders and Rising Pune Supergiant go into Wednesday’s match at the Eden Gardens with different perspectives. While Kolkata suffered only their third defeat this IPL season at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pune boosted their chances of making the cut for the playoff stage by taming the Gujarat Lions on Monday.
Coincidentally, both matches were decided by individual performances. Kolkata were laid low by David Warner’s 59-ball 126 in Hyderabad, while Ben Stokes single-handedly took Pune home with a blistering unbeaten 103 off 63 balls.
Rising Pune Supergiant have found some timely momentum in this important phase of the tournament, and as a result find themselves among the top four teams. After winning just one of their first four matches, RPS have surged, winning five of their next six matches.Stokes’ red-hot form will, no doubt, be a worry for Gautam Gambhir’s team as Warner too had dished out similar treatment to Kolkata which boasts the most balanced attack in the tournament.

Current Status in IPL 2017
KKR:Matches – 10, Won –7, Lost – 3
RPS: Matches – 10, Won –6, Lost – 4
Kolkata Knight Riders
Gambhir loves backing his players and despite a loss the other day, KKR is expected to retain the same XI. Shakib Al Hasan’s exclusion from the playing XI has raised questions and he might make a comeback in place of Colin de Grandhomme but it is still an unlikely prospect.
Predicted XI: Sunil Narine, Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Yusuf Pathan, Sheldon Jackson, Colin de Grandhomme, Chris Woakes, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav.
Rising Pune Supergiant
RPS camp is highly unlikely to tinker with their winning combination after some impressive showings in the last 3 games. Ben Stokes’ fitness was a question but he put that to rest with an audacious innings in the clash against Gujarat Lions.
Predicted XI: Rahul Tripathi, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Manoj Tiwary, Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni, Dan Christian, Washington Sundar, Imran Tahir, Jaydev Unadkat, Shardul Thakur.
Head to Head :
Overall: Total Matches –3, KKR Won – 3, RPS Won – 7
KKR have a clear edge over RPS on the head to head department winning 3 out of 3. In the first encounter this season, a brilliant 158 runs partnership between Gambhir and Robin Uthappa ensured they chased a stiff target down with utmost ease.
Our Prediction for the game:
KKR have a clear edge on head to head department and despite RPS playing exceedingly well of late, it will be a monumental task for them to overhaul KKR in their own den.
Our Prediction goes with KKR 43% – RPS 57%
