Two low ranked teams face each other in a do-or-die battle that gives them an outside chance of making it to the playoffs.
Tonight the Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions will be battling out each other at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Both the teams have not shown a very good performance this season. Each of the team has six points to their name according to the IPL standing table. Considering their current positions and individual performances it is really tough to say if either of them will make it to the semi-finals.
The Delhi Daredevils have three wins from nine matches. In their most recent fixture – on Tuesday night – the Delhi Daredevils ended their five-match losing streak when they chased down 186 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. DD, who will still be without the services of Zaheer Khan, will look to build on that win; they need many more wins to stay in contention for a playoff spot.
The Gujarat Lions are seventh in the eight-team table; they have three wins from ten matches and need to win every single one of their remaining matches to give themselves even an outside chance of finishing the league season in the top four. Suresh Raina’s team has now lost two close matches on the bounce; they finished on the wrong side of the result in the Super Over against Mumbai Indians, and most recently lost to Rising Pune Supergiant in a last over finish.
When & Where:
04 May 2017, 2000 Hrs IST @ Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi
Current Status in IPL 2017
DD:Matches – 9, Won –3, Lost – 6
GL:Matches – 10, Won –3, Lost – 7
Kagiso Rabada went for 59 runs in their previous match so he is likely to sit out and make way for Pat Cummins who looked impressive in the earlier matches and also against the Test series against India. The rest of the XI is expected to remain the same.
Predicted XI: Sanju Samson, Karun Nair (C), Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Angelo Mathews, Corey Anderson, Chris Morris, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Pat Cummins, Mohammed Shami.
Despite their below par performances, GL is expected to retain the same XI. They actually don’t have an option as their star players haven’t lived up to their reputation. Ravindra Jadeja has failed to replicate his Test performances into the shortest format and has gone for plenty.
Predicted XI: Ishan Kishan, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (C), Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Smith, James Faulkner, Ravindra Jadeja, Ankit Soni, Pradeep Sangwan, Basil Thampi.
Head to Head Record
Overall: Total Matches –2, DD Won – 1, GL Won – 2
Both teams are yet to play in this edition so far. In the previous encounter between the two sides at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground last year, DD clinched a nail-biting thriller by a solitary run.
Our Prediction for the game:
GL has now lost two close matches on the bounce; they finished on the wrong side of the result in the Super Over against Mumbai Indians, and most recently lost to Rising Pune Supergiant in a last over finish, they might come hard at Buoyant Delhi.
Our Prediction goes with DD 43% – GL 57%
Given the two side’s form, it will be an evenly matched contest between them but following Delhi’s impressive showing against Hyderabad, it seems they have their noses slightly ahead.
